Google is going to pay you when your blog shows up in AI answers

Ranking on search and in AI, and getting paid for it on top? Sounds too good to be true, but Google just confirmed it is starting to happen! 🤩

A program called AI Contribution Pilot is in testing: Google pays publishers when their content makes a meaningful contribution to building answers in AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini. It is all managed right inside Search Console, with a monthly earnings dashboard!

And before you think "oh, so I just need to show up as a link in an AI answer", hold on, it is not quite like that. Google made it clear that payment happens when your content actually helped build the answer, not just when it shows up as a citation after the answer was already generated. So your content has to be good enough for the AI to really lean on it!

It is still being tested with a handful of publishers (invite only), so you may not have access yet. But it is likely to expand, so anyone with an active, well optimized blog full of relevant content is ahead of the game, and anyone without one... stays on the sidelines :)
